CHARACTER INFO
Name: Jon "Rico" Richards
Gender: Male.
Source: Marvel Comics, Earth 41001.
Canon point: GeNEXT #1, immediately post-issue.
Age: 16.
Colour: #9AB58D
Chumhandle: technicalLyrics

History:
Rico comes from an elaborate What If? series written by Chris Claremont. The three mini-series so far follow this chronology:
X-Men: The End
Ten years later, X-Men: GeNext, which is immediately followed by GeNext United. Zawadi as his mother is headcanon extrapolated from the fact Rachel Grey is the only other AU-canon alternative and she's 109% dead, while the rest is pretty much canon. (Claremont is not a subtle writer.)

Rico is the son of Franklin Richards, the child of superheroes Reed and Sue Richards, and Zawadi, a normal citizen of Wakanda who is definitely not royalty, or related to royalty at all, ignore the wiki on that. Rico grew up with the Fantastic Four doting on him as the first grandchild, and he was raised immersed in the superhero world. He was the kid that was baby-sat by Peter Parker, tutored in math by Ben Grimm and who got Christmas gifts from Tony Stark -- and, yeah, who probably got kidnapped frequently due to crazy cross-company crossovers shenanigans. All of his family and fictive kin were superheroes or former villains, so in that light, it's kind of understandable that Rico grew up thoroughly fed up with the entire lifestyle. Saving people? Costumed suits? Fuck that, he's going to be a musician!

Despite his determination, however, he'd already graduated high school by the time he was thirteen and subsequently was corralled by his parents into attending M.I.T. in search of a degree. A non-musical degree! While there, Rico promptly ruined all of their plans by meeting and befriending Sophie van Doom, the inexplicably similarly aged daughter of Doctor Doom, the primary nemesis of his grandparents, the Fantastic Four, as well as being an all-around terrible person. Understandably, Rico's parents were less than pleased about this, but accepted it. This would ultimately bite them in the ass when the two children's combined shenanigans blew up a laboratory and resulted in them both being expelled without credit.

It was also at this point that Rico hit puberty, and subsequently his mutant abilities began to manifest. With the normal educational system out of bounds, his grandparents offered to tutor Rico privately, but Rico's parents decided otherwise. They shipped him off to Xavier's Institute for Gifted Children, hoping that the combination of a normal environment and ability training would help him more.

Over the next three years, Rico and Oli added Becka Munroe, Pavel Rasputin, and Anna-Marie to their posse, and they're a casual, if not especially close-knit group of friends by the time of GeNext #1.

Personality:
As the son of Franklin Richards, Rico is a third generation hero, born and raised to a social group that includes superpowered individuals of all stripes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this has resulted in a complete disdain towards meta life: what Rico wants most of all is just to be *normal*. Growing up in a meta-integrated world means he has no issue in using and embracing his mutations, which he views as perfectly typical, but Rico's somewhat of a pariah in his family due to his role as the oldest Richards grandchild and his complete disinterest in continuing any of his family's work, technically or heroically.

Rico's main passion in life is, like most teenagers, music! He's been playing the guitar since at least age thirteen and it's what he's subsequently based his life around. While he has other interests like technology and fashion, he intentionally lets his music define him as a person and he treats it as his main character trait. He'd much rather be known for it than being "the smart guy," or worse yet, the Richards heir. Similarly, while he's interested in technology, it's solely on a casual basis: for all of his showed skill with it, Rico treats it as an enjoyable hobby rather than a passion or a potential career.

Rico is intensely laid back and relaxed. He doesn't worry and it's difficult to actually stress him out, because he's perfectly willing to let life take him where it will. Even when he's vehemently disagreeing with people, he's not the sort to raise his voice; Rico prizes himself on being cool-headed and rational all the time, above petty bullshit like *fighting*. Unfortunately, though he isn't particularly aggressive in the "shouting" sense, Rico treats arguments and other quarrels as fights that he is going to win. Few topics are out-of-bounds, and he has no issue in bringing up sensitive topics if he think it'll drive his point home.

Because, when everything is said and done, Rico isn't an especially pleasant person. He's apathetic by nature, and his default personality is bored superiority; for all that he doesn't typically use it, he is intellectually smarter than most of his peers, teachers and yes, even family, and this has combined with typical teenager superiority to make him think he's better than most. Obviously, this isn't true, and he's aware of this on an external level: however, this shit is pretty internalised, and for all that he'd never voice that opinion, the fact he's accepted it tends to show. He has a bad predisposition towards condescension towards everyone, and everyone gets nicknames: his peers are 'kiddos', 'girls', 'boys', his teachers are 'suits' and 'geezers'.

Rico's rarely outright hostile, but he's rarely polite. Familiarity breeds contempt, and he's been rubbing shoulders with most heroes from a young age! (There are obviously some exceptions: no matter how many stories his family has about Namor, for example, Rico's not going to treat him as anything short of terrifying and thus worth being polite to. Because he doesn't, y'know, want to be stabbed.) Along with this, Rico is not a particularly reliable person. Part of the reason he's deeply uninterested in being in the heroes business is because he isn't, as is stated above, interested in people beyond his own friends, because he doesn't want to deal with the responsibility of saving people he isn't personally invested in. Similarly, Rico can come off as slightly untrustworthy. He doesn't intentionally lie to his friends, but he lives by the idea that omitting information isn't a lie: there's no sign that his family knows his real first name and it's clear that, outside of Oli, none of them know the first thing about his family. In a group where most people's families are highly important, for whatever reason, and when he's previously called other team-mates out on "lying" about similar things, this is just a little hypocritical.

However, Rico isn't an all-together negative person, as seen by the fact he's relatively well-like d. (Somehow!) While never polite, Rico is rarely outright unpleasant, and when it comes down to it, he's always there for his friends. Once Rico decides he's loyal to someone, he sticks with them: on the other hand, being loyal and being friendly is a big difference. An example of this can be seen with Oli, his best friend since childhood and one of the only two he's close to in GeNext. Rico is willing to follow Oli into what he honestly believes will either be a violation of federal law or expulsion, despite his doom-speaking and his dislike of the girl they were "saving"; similarly, while he's quick to verbally express his distance towards another childhood friend, Sophia, he ultimately risks his life in an attempt to ensure her safety, because she's still his friend. Once Rico decides he's loyal to someone, it's hella hard to change his mind, regardless of his own personal feelings.

A reason he's so loyal to people he considers friends is probably because he doesn't have many! Rico hangs out with a lotof people, but even within his "own" group, the GeNEXT kids, he's only close to two of them: Becka, his crush, and Olivier, his best friend since childhood. The other two group members, No-Name and Pavel, he is actively hostile and apathetic towards in turn. Rico's personality isn't one that lends towards close friendships. Relationships are things that happen to Rico, rather than things he pursues! He's never shown to even try interacting with Pavel, he never breaks off his friendship with Sophia despite disliking her, and the one time he tries to actively pursue a relationship, he does it through taking Becka out shopping for club outfits and then is honestly baffled when she doesn't take that as a Sign Of Interest. He's not so much socially inept as socially clueless, like most teens.

In short: Rico is a fairly typical teenager who likes fashion, music and people of various genders, although maybe not in that order. He was born into the pre-defined role of "scientist" and "hero" by his family, and he's been struggling against them for most of his life despite internalising the idea he's smarter (and thus better!) than everyone else. He's blunt, unreliable and apathetic about everything that isn't related to his friends or his interests: however, the fact he's pleasant and outrageously loyal to people he considers important means he isn't viewed as entirely reprehensible, despite a mixture of overwhelming apathy and normal teen awkwardness meaning he's a little rubbish at relationships.

Abilities & physical limitations:
Like pretty much every member of the Richards family, Rico is pretty smart. For all that he loves music, he is a pretty cerebral guy: he can crunch numbers with the best of them, and is capable of complex equations on the go. He states that he was able to improve on Reed's design for zooming contact lenses, and he's shown to be able to recognize and diagnose complex circuitry at a glance, as well as graduating high school in his early teens. Basically, he's your typical comic book genius.

Rico is also a mutant, and he's inherited his grandmothers ability to turn invisible and create force-fields These abilities are a combination of psychic ability as well as a physical mutation, although the line between the two is kind of blurry. He's able to turn completely invisible on the visual scale and of creating further shielding of his temperature and his audible presence, as well as projecting this into a field wide enough to encompass a small plane with sufficient concentration and no distractions.

He can also create invisible force-fields that he is, theoretically, able to turn into a variety of shapes. In reality, he's only practiced in creating flat, one-dimensional shields and bubbles around people, and those are subsequently the two most frequent uses he relies on. Rico doesn't typically use or practice his force-fields, which means they require significantly more effort and concentration to create and maintain for him than invisibility.

While his force-fields are invisible, they aren't invincible. If he loses concentration, they'll immediately disappear, and sufficient force against his psionic force-fields will cause him mental injury (migraine, nosebleed). If enough force was exerted to destroy a force-field he was actively holding, it's quite likely the backlash would knock him out. Also, unlike his invisibility, his force-fields are purely a psychic ability, and so would be open to the typical psychic tampering.

With that said, he's lazy as hell. Unless Rico actively thinks there's a reason to do otherwise (in which case, it'll be mentioned), he's only going to be shielding himself on the visual scale, and while he can generate force fields, he doesn't like doing so. Rico would much rather prefer to gently fade out of a fight than actually lower himself to violence.

Rico has also inherited a limited version of Mr Fantastic's elasticity. He's able to stretch portions of his body out to extreme lengths, like they're made of rubber, and he has also inherited an "elastic brain": while never specifically defined, this essentially means he's easier for psychics to piggy-back on, and presumably he's more exposed to psychic meddling of most sorts.

Appearance:
Rico is a sixteen year old boy who stands around 5'6", and with a relatively slim build: while he's got muscle, he's the kid that skips out on gym and Danger Room sessions in favor of.. well, anything else. He's not a physically oriented person, and that shows when you compare him to his peers (or any other teen superhero, really).

He usually wears layered graphic t-shirts and jeans, with a miniature computer strapped to his knee. For all that he enjoys harping about ~Fashion~, he really doesn't bother with it himself!

Notable AU differences from canon, if applicable:

Strife Specibus: Guitarkind. The sheer power of his adolescent angst and sick beats drives away imps, ogres and Denizens alike.
Prototyping: "Dying Is Forever" poster. Alternatively, an autographed Dazzler CD.
Title: Muse of Mist. A lot of his in-game experience, from lands to class, would be aimed towards enabling him in his passive behavior: his in-game quest, then, and his title (for muses interacted with people to inspire them, while his in-game class is aimed towards avoiding interaction!) is to surmount this and become pro-active. His sprite, his in-game quests and his consorts would all be aimed at this.
In-game abilities:
Mist as a title is, ultimately, placing the player into a combat-support role. Their main ability is the one to create illusions! This starts off, when low on the echeladder, as essentially blurry, human-sized bundles of mist that reflects whatever people subconsciously want to see, in order to draw them in or repulse them away. For some people, this might be an image of their dead mom; for others, this might be their lands gate, or a pathway to their home. Everyone sees something different, including Rico himself.

Over time, the images would gradually become more and more clear-cut as Rico gained on his echeladder and learned to control his abilities. They'd gradually begin to gain the ability to create sound, color, whatever else to make them seem more ~real~. Eventually, at the top of his echeladder but before god-tier, he'd be able to create scarily realistic but still incorporeal images pulled directly from people's minds. More importantly, he'd be able to control them to some extent: he wouldn't know exactly what is being projected, but he'd be able to make the images try and lure the individuals over the edge of the cliff, or whatever else.

He'd likely also have the generic ability to summon the mists, which would likely by his only skill at the bottom of his echeladder / start of the game.

The title relates to Rico in that his title as Muse incorporates and extends his role as a musician: it's also a reference to his desired role in life, i.e. he won't be the hero but he can tell their stories. His class as Mist is just a play off of his invisibility powers, and an extension of his disinterest towards violence: it offers him up a non-violent means of ~resistance~.

Planet:
Land of Breeze And Bells.

His land is a swamp filled rainforest, covered in "islands" of dry land throughout. It always looks like there are mountain peaks looming in the distance, but they're actually just illusions caused by the mist. All of the islands are covered in towering trees covered in bells. The planet is pretty warm, if damp, and is basically a cloud forest, with an accompanying level of fog throughout.

Usually, there's a constant, gentle breeze that means at least one of the trees is always ringing. However, with the wakening of the Denizen, Tāwhiri, the winds have picked up and the growing storm-front means that the bells are constantly ringing in a horrible cacophony of noise.

His house is in the center of his Land, on a small island that mostly consists of his room, sand and not much else. Rico isn't bringing in the Four Freedoms Plaza, but instead just his dorm-room and the corridor that connects the boy's dorm in Xavier's Institute. So just a building that consists of a long hall with doors that open up to the res of the island, with his room at the end: a long L shape, basically!

The Consorts are some kind of creepy-crawly arthropod (centipedes? four-eyed tarantulas?) that live in the trees, and whom have been driven out of their homes in the tree due to the constant noise. They are deeply upset over this, and just want to go home. :'(

Dear_Mun thread!

CTL: Maaan.
CTL: For something with such killer graphics, this communication system sucks.
CTL: Chatrooms? In 2006? Hello, did the programmers forget we have webcams?
CTL: Lets be fair.
CTL: This is better than a BBS board.
CTL: But, y'know, if we're pretending this is the 90's and that's the standard we're holding ourselves to, we might as well give up now.
CTL: Now.
CTL: Technically, I could sit down and hack us in a better system.
CTL: But dude, let's be honest here.
CTL: That's tedious work, I'm lazy and I'm pretty sure I can't be the only coder here.

CTL: Which is where you, my programming friends, come in.
CTL: Who's up for a good old fashioned LAN party?
CTL: I figure if we divide up the code, something might actually get done.
-

CTL: Does anyone have a can of Raid?
CTL: Because my planet is crawling in bugs.
CTL: Not just any bugs, mind you!
CTL: My friends, these are bonafide creepy-crawlies.
CTL: And I'm fairly certain one's trying to eat through my window.
